I like multitasking!
So I'm back to multitasking at the gym by reading and being on the elliptical machine. Even if it doesn't get my heart pumping like running does, I like it more because it means I get through books faster! I just finished reading The Master and Margarita, by Mikhail Bulgakov. It's this weird Russian book by this guy who probably got killed by Stalin in the '40's because he wrote satirically about communism and the Russian government. Poor guy.
I think basically the story is about how evil is cool. Margarita sold her soul to the devil in order to gain back the sanity of her lover, the Master, and in return they got peace and happiness for the rest of eternity. The Master wrote an awesome book about Pontius Pilate that somehow freed Pilate from the eternal suffering/insomnia he'd been enduring since he killed Jesus. So that allowed Pilate to talk to Jesus as much as he wanted which made Jesus happy so he asked Satan to give the Master peace forever. Which is an odd thing for Jesus to ask of Satan, since you'd think it was the other way around, but the coolest quote is as follows: "He read the Master's work," said Mattu Levi, "and asks he you to take the Master with you and reward him with peace. Is that so difficult for you, spirit of evil?"
"Nothing is difficult for me," answered Woland,"[...] and why don't you take him with you, into the light?"
"He has not earned light, he earned peace."'
Makes you think, yeah?
And now I'm starting this book my Mom got me for Christmas about dharma (not the fun-loving free-spirit married to an uptight lawyer-type) in the city. It's basically reaffirming everything I want to think about humanity (i.e. everyone is basically good and loving but circumstances have gotten in the way of them being awesome) but have recently not been feeling so much. There's also this good idea that you can only live in the now, seeing as the past is just stories and the future is just stories you're making up. I'm not saying I'm not going to strive for goals I want to achieve, but I can see how constantly evaluating present actions in regards to future wants can make life hell.
"There's no such thing as a good day or a bad day, just how you handle them"
I don't know why I quoted that, seeing as I said it...
I love books!

That's a great idea! Reading while you work out on the elliptical machine... I have to find out something I can do while I read, cause it's not that I like multitasking, I just can't do only one thing at a time. Maybe that's why I don't read as much as I wanted to...
